FAQ
You don??t have a stinky cat, you have a stinky litter box. And while no animal has pleasant smelling waste, cat litter odor can be extra powerful. There are a variety of factors that make cat litter odor so strong. Cat urine is very concentrated, containing pheromones and hormones used to mark their territory. In addition, as cat urine breaks down, it releases an ammonia odor and mercaptans (the same smell produced by our smelly friend the skunk).
Controlling or eliminating litter odor is an issue that every cat owner has to tackle. The first step is to make sure your cat is properly trained and has access to a litter box with fresh litter in it. Most experts recommend having one more litter box than you do cats, so two boxes for one cat, three boxes for two cats and so on. The second step is maintaining the box by removing used litter regularly. Scoop clumps into a Litter Genie? pail to help lock litter and odor away.
Rule number one is always keep a clean litter box. Having a Litter Genie? pail next to your litter box is a great way to ensure that you have a place to lock away your used litter to keep your home fresh and your cat happy.

If it??s a one time issue, treat the affected area with water, vinegar and mild soap and blot dry. If it??s a repeated issue, consider moving your litter box, retraining your cat, or visiting the vet to make sure it??s not a medical issue.

Most cats prefer two inches of litter or less. Too deep, and your cat may not like their footing and opt to go to the bathroom elsewhere.
